Expression of Dlx2 in mouse tooth

Dlx2; distal-less homeobox 2; Tes1

Species: mouse
Location in mouse genome: chromosome 2, 71884664 - 71887997 (UCSC, assembly October 2003)
Tooth: molar and incisor
Method: immunochemistry, antibody: polyclonal,

Initiation stage
Expression: oral epithelium, dental epithelium, dental mesenchyme

Bud stage
Expression: dental epithelium, dental mesenchyme
No expression: oral epithelium

Cap stage
Expression: outer enamel epithelium, inner enamel epithelium, enamel knot, stellate reticulum, dental papilla
No expression: oral epithelium, basement membrane, dental sac

Bell stage
Expression: outer enamel epithelium, inner enamel epithelium, stratum intermedia, stellate reticulum, dental papilla
No expression: oral epithelium, basement membrane, dental sac

Late bell (differentiation) stage
Expression: outer enamel epithelium, stratum intermedia, stellate reticulum, preameloblasts, dental papilla
No expression: basement membrane, dental sac, preodontoblasts

Transgenic mice lacking both Dlx1 and Dlx2 genes do not develop maxillary molars. The development is arrested after initiation..
Drosophila relative: distalless.
