Expression of osteocalcin in rat tooth

Bglap; BGP; OCN; bone gla protein; bone gamma-carboxyglutamate protein 2 (Bglap1, Bglap2)

Species: rat
Location in rat genome: chromosome 2, 180432418 - 180433396 (UCSC, assembly June 2003)
Tooth: molar and incisor
Method: immunochemistry, antibody: antiserum and antibodies

Late bell
(differentiation) stage
Expression: preodontoblasts
No expression: outer enamel epithelium, stratum intermedia, stellate reticulum, preameloblasts, basement membrane, dental papilla, dental sac

First onset was in odontoblasts along a thin layer of predentin..

Secretory stage
Expression: odontoblasts, predentin, dentin
No expression: outer enamel epithelium, stratum intermedia, stellate reticulum, ameloblasts, enamel, dental papilla, dental sac

Root development
Expression: odontoblasts, predentin, dentin, cementum, cementoblasts
No expression: dental papilla, periodontal ligament

Acellular cementum and cementoblasts were negative..

Osteocalcin is specific marker for differentiated odontoblasts.
